Lombardia Aerospace Cluster brings its companies closer to 3D printing: the Aidro experience

About 20 companies of Lombardia Aerospace Cluster teamed up to discuss the issues of Additive Manufacturing and participants were invited to visit Aidro’s Additive Manufacturing department.

In addition to drones and satellites, widening the gaze a bit towards the future, in a few decades 3D printing technology will also land on the moon. The Moon Village project, which will host the first human colony on the Moon, involves the use of special 3D printers to build shelters using the lunar regolith. Amalia Ercoli Finzi, Honorary Professor of the Aerospace Science and Technology Department of Politecnico di Milano spoke about this project and many others on the fiftieth anniversary of the landing of Armstrong and Aldrin, retracing the most salient stages of the technological conquest of the Moon by man (and woman!).

On this occasion, the President of Lombardia Aerospace Cluster Angelo Vallerani presented an award to Professor Finzi, the first woman to graduate in Aeronautical Engineering in Italy and “mother” of the Rosetta Space Mission, who brought a piece of Europe on the back of a comet 500 million km away from Earth. The lunar prize, also printed in 3D, is the acknowledgment of the Cluster for its passionate and tireless activity of divulging technique and space science.
